Racing Cars up to 1100cc
E2. Racing Cars over 1100cc up to 1600cc
E3. Racing Cars over 1600cc up to 2000cc
E4. Racing Cars over 2000cc

I will double check with Bruce and Dick and confirm this is how it should be - I think it is just a typo in the regs.
Re: Colerne Sprints?

Lisa

Unfortunately we received notification from the MOD last week that Colerne would not be available. The summary of the situation is that they are having work done on the Tarmac, and the contractor has advised them that the life of the type of surface being used would be much shorter if used for motorsport rather than as taxi ways etc.

Our events of course have less impact than some of the other activities that Colerne is used for, but this is a blanket ban on motorsport and affects everything at Colerne not just us.

We are continuing to investigate alternative venues, and everything possible is being done to offer alternatives for next year - of course Colerne is a very hard act to follow. I'll try to get something put up on the front page of the website so there is an official statement in an easier to find place - of course there will be more info in Backfire next month as well.

Andy

Re: So I have a car, and I'd ....

You could have a look at doing Autotests or Solo's - £20-30 entry fee no special equipment required. Basically a timed test around cones, Solo's are a bit quicker and are all forward so no messing about reversing. You might also enjoy Production Car Trials, which are even cheaper - not really fast but a great deal of fun .... Our next Solo is now October - There is a championship run by the Cotswold motor sport group - as members we get invited which opens up a lot more events.

There are cheaper test track days by the way - our Combe day is £123, but is sold out - you could also look at some of the motorsport events airfield track days - sometimes go as low as about £79 out of the main season.

We also just went to Shakespear County Raceway - good chance to do a timed 1/4 mile on the drag strip - their "run what you brung" days are £20 per day for as many runs as you can get in, plus it will cost about £15 to get in.

So I have a car, and I'd ....

Hi everybody,

About 14 years ago I bought a new(-ish) Audi A4 1.8 T-Sport; after a couple of years on loan I now have it back and it is still an absolutely brilliant car to drive, but it has no resale value (we-buy-any-car value it at £275).

Maybe it's my age (or what I remember paying for it in 1996 :) ) but I can't give it away and I remember seeing something on top gear about track days and low-grade competing. Where can I do this? I've found places like Castle Coombe but that's £170 plus petrol and that's nearly as much as my car is worth!

Surely there is something I can do that is a laugh and quick (OK, I first said "fast", but I really mean "quick-ish"....and vaguely competitive) where I don't have to buy into anything so expensive? There was a top gear "endurance" run in a field that looks just the kind of thing (except for the tractor).

Is there any life for old [fast] cars?

John

We had a great time camping and running the family car on the strip, it was certainly different to sprints and hillclimbs with no corners to go round. Also thanks to chief chef Martin for slaving over the hot bbq all weekend with his more than you can eat policy.

Cheers Pete
