The BAC MC KARTING EVENING - Saturday 9th March 1996
Report by Andy Moss - Organised by Mark Niblett
Twenty three club members, family & friends made the trip up the M5 to Gloucester for the
1996 BAC MC Karting evening. Following signing on and a briefing, it was out onto the track
for the evenings racing. Everybody managed to get to the circuit on time apart from event
organiser Mark Niblett who managed to double book himself and could not arrive until 9pm !
The circuit was longer than that at Cardiff last year, with a mixture of a fast straight
and sweeping curve and some tight and slippery bends.
After six laps practice it was on to the heats - as we had exclusive use of the centre
there was not too much waiting about. The twenty three heats of eight laps were run very
efficiently with a computerised timing system meaning everyone knew who was in the lead
and how fast the had gone.
The top eight went onto the semi's - a twelve lap battle with 4 karts in each. Before the
final we were treated to a demonstration of the latest electric kart which was impressively
quick.
Paul Bird emerged victorious in the final, not only winning the event overall but also
taking the trophy for fastest lap with a time of just over 18 seconds. Matt Nichols came
in second with Sara Nichols third.
An excellent evenings fun, enjoyed by all those who made the journey up the M5.
